A symphony is an automated trading strategy — Learn more about symphonies here

About

A quarterly, rules-based switch. If bonds beat T‑bills over 60 days, go “risk‑on” and split between the 2 strongest ETFs (may include 3x equity funds). If not, move fully to 7–10Y Treasuries. Simple momentum with a risk-on/off filter.
NutHow it works
Every quarter it checks the last 60 days: if the total US bond market (BND) beat T‑bills (BIL), it’s “risk‑on.” If not, it’s “risk‑off.” • Risk‑off: put 100% in IEF (7–10Y Treasuries). • Risk‑on: pick the 2 best 90‑day performers from MDY (mid‑caps), QQQ (big tech), SHY (short Treasuries), UPRO/TQQQ (3x funds). Split 50/50. Leveraged funds are high risk.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this strategy targets ~31.2% annualized returns with a Calmar ~1.62, beating the S&P 500 on risk-adjusted terms. It uses a simple quarterly risk-on/off switch plus momentum picks, with Treasuries hedging drawdowns.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
