1) Is the market trending up? It checks if the S&P 500 (SPY) is above its ~200‑day average. If yes: Risk‑On; if not: Risk‑Off. 2) Is it overheated or jumpy? It watches a speedometer called RSI and short‑term volatility. 3) Risk‑On + calm: piles into the fastest movers (often 3x Tech/Nasdaq/Semiconductors, sometimes single‑stock leverage and Bitcoin). 4) Signs of stress/overheating or Risk‑Off: flips to Treasuries (TLT), gold (GLD), commodities (DBC), cash‑like T‑Bills (BIL), volatility hedges (UVXY/VIXY), or inverse ETFs (SQQQ/SOXS/TECS). Bonus check: KMLM (a “managed‑futures” ETF across commodities, rates, and currencies) acts like a canary; when it looks strong vs Tech or above its own trend, the strategy de‑risks.
