About

A daily, rules-based switch between an oil fund (DBO) and short‑term Treasuries (SHV): buy DBO only when oil is in a long‑term uptrend and has risen recently; otherwise park in SHV.
NutHow it works
Each day: 1) Check if DBO’s 50‑day average price is at/above its 200‑day average (long‑term uptrend). 2) If yes, also check if DBO is up roughly >2% over the last 20 trading days. If both pass, hold DBO. If either fails, hold SHV (short‑term U.S. Treasury ETF).
CheckmarkValue prop
Defensive oil-to-cash strategy that tucks into SHV in downturns and rides oil on uptrends. In out-of-sample tests, it cut drawdowns to ~6.6% vs SPY ~18.8%, offering downside protection and diversification, even if long-run returns lag the S&P.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
