A quarterly market-timing strategy that uses bond-market signals to switch between aggressive leveraged stock funds and defensive hedges like Treasuries, gold, the dollar, and inverse funds.

This strategy checks the bond market first. If broad bonds are doing better than ultra-short Treasury bills, it takes a more aggressive stance and buys 4 beaten-down high-octane funds tied to tech, chips, banks, the S&P 500, or long bonds. If not, it turns defensive. It then asks whether interest rates seem to be rising or falling, and shifts into a mix of dollar strength, defensive sectors, gold, Treasuries, volatility, or funds that rise when stocks or bonds fall.

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
