About
A daily strategy that only buys a 2x S&P 500 fund when the market looks calm and stocks seem temporarily beaten down; otherwise it hides in a defensive mix of dollar, gold, and consumer-staples funds.
This strategy checks the U.S. stock market every day using 15 slightly different tests.
Each test asks two questions: (1) Has the market been calm lately? (2) Have stocks recently looked weaker than very safe short-term Treasury bonds?
If both are true, that slice buys SSO, a fund that tries to deliver 2x the S&P 500’s daily move. If not, it moves to a defensive mix of the U.S. dollar (UUP), gold (GLD), and consumer-staples stocks (XLP).
The final portfolio blends all 15 slices equally.
High upside with disciplined risk: when markets are calm and stocks lag Treasuries, the strategy uses 2x SSO; otherwise it stays defensive. Out-of-sample: ~31% annualized return, Sharpe ~1.52 vs ~1.34, Calmar ~1.15, max drawdown ~27% vs ~19%.
