About

A contrarian, rules‑based strategy: hedge with volatility/defensive funds when big indexes look “too hot,” buy short‑term rebound ETFs when they’re “washed‑out,” and otherwise sit in dividend ETFs.
NutHow it works
It watches a short‑term “heat” gauge (RSI, 0–100). >~80 = very hot; <~30 = washed‑out. When major indexes (SPY=S&P 500, QQQ=Nasdaq‑100, IOO, etc.) run hot, it shifts to hedges that often jump if stocks drop: VIXY/UVXY (volatility), SPLV (low‑vol stocks), BTAL (market‑neutral anti‑beta), and BIL (T‑bills). Hedge size scales with how hot it is. If markets get washed‑out, it briefly buys rebound funds (TECL/SPXL/SSO). Otherwise it parks in SCHD/DGRO (dividends).
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, this contrarian, rules-based strategy delivers strong risk-adjusted performance with lower drawdowns than the S&P 500: Calmar 2.61, Sharpe 0.97, max drawdown 3.88% vs SPY’s 5.07%. Diversified hedges + dividends offer steadier exposure.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
