A tactical strategy that flips between an aggressive bond/volatility defense and leveraged sector bets, depending on whether the broad stock market looks overheated.

This strategy first checks whether the overall U.S. stock market looks overheated using SPY, a fund that tracks the S&P 500. If stocks look too hot, it shifts into a defensive mix: mostly U.S. Treasury bond trades, some very short-term Treasury funds, and a 20% position in UVXY, a volatility fund that tends to jump when markets panic. If stocks do not look overheated, it picks 2 sector bets—like technology, energy, or healthcare—and goes either up or down on them using leveraged funds, based on whether key stocks in those sectors look stretched.

Out-of-sample return: 22.7% vs S&P 500 20.3%. Tactical hedges and sector rotation aim to capture upside across regimes. Tradeoffs: higher drawdowns and lower Sharpe, yet potential for stronger long-run upside than the index.
