One half watches the U.S. stock market—especially big tech—and tries to ride uptrends using funds tied to the S&P 500 and Nasdaq. If prices look too hot, too weak, or too volatile, it shifts into protection such as gold, the U.S. dollar, short-term bonds, or a volatility hedge. The other half looks for funds that have recently fallen the most and bets on a bounce. In calmer markets it prefers stock funds; in rougher markets it may use commodities or Treasury-bond trades instead.
