This strategy acts like a market mood detector. It watches several short-term matchups between “safer” areas and “riskier” areas of the market. If the safer side starts winning, it assumes BTAL—a fund that often rises when aggressive stocks lose leadership—may do well, so it shifts into a defensive/contrarian mix that includes BTAL. Otherwise, it simply buys the 4 strongest market trends from a broad list of sectors and regions.

Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
