About

A daily, rule-based mix of SPY, QQQ, QLD, and SHY that uses RSI momentum, SPY trend (short vs long MA), and volatility checks to switch between stocks and cash, with occasional leveraged exposure to chase upside. Backtested 20 years for potential upside with lower drawdown.
NutHow it works
Beat The Market V2 is a daily-rebalanced portfolio that moves between stocks and a cash-like asset based on momentum and trend signals. It uses four main building blocks: - The assets: SPY (broad US stocks), QQQ (tech-heavy stocks), QLD (leveraged QQQ), and SHY (short-term US Treasuries as cash). - Trend check: compares SPY’s short-term price with its long-term average. If the short-term price is above the long-term average, it favors stocks; if not, it steers toward cash/bonds. - Momentum/RSI signals: RSI is a momentum measure that helps judge if an asset is getting overbought or oversold. The strategy looks at RSI on QQQ over different windows (e.g., 10-day and 60-day) to decide whether to reduce risk or embrace exposure. - Volatility filter: it also checks recent volatility (standard deviation of returns over a short window). If volatility is high, the system reduces risk by moving toward SHY. - Leverage tilt: when momentum is very strong, the strategy may tilt into QLD for amplified upside instead of plain SPY exposure. The result is a risk-managed, rule-based mix that tries to capture upside in favorable regimes while preserving capital in unfavorable ones. The daily cadence means signals can react quickly to changing conditions, but also introduces potential churn and higher transaction costs.
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample, Beat The Market V2 delivers higher risk-adjusted upside vs SPY: Sharpe ~1.33 vs 1.10, annualized ≈56% vs ≈20%, Calmar ≈1.55. Dynamic momentum/trend/volatility controls aim for stronger growth with risk management, though drawdowns can be larger.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
