About
A market-timing strategy that owns SPY and QQQ in strong markets, buys QQQ after sharp selloffs, and hides in short-term Treasury bills when conditions are weak.
This strategy watches the U.S. stock market’s trend using SPY (a fund that tracks the S&P 500). If the market looks healthy, it owns both SPY and QQQ (a fund focused on large tech-heavy stocks), giving more weight to whichever has been less jumpy lately.
If the market looks weak, it checks whether QQQ has been sold off hard recently. If so, it buys QQQ for a possible rebound. If not, it either holds SPY if the market still has some short-term strength, or moves to BIL, a very safe short-term Treasury-bill fund.
Out-of-sample edge: 24.3% annualized return vs SPY around 20%, Calmar 1.44, Sharpe 1.42, max DD 16.93% vs 18.76%. Trend-based, risk-managed exposure with cash hedge preserves upside and reduces losses.
