An aggressive market-timing strategy that usually wants 3x S&P 500 exposure, but quickly switches to volatility, defensive, or bearish positions when stocks look overheated or weak.
NutHow it works
This strategy checks each day whether the stock market looks healthy, overheated, or weak. If stocks look healthy and not too stretched, it buys UPRO, a fund that aims to deliver about 3x the daily move of the S&P 500. If many stock indexes or sectors have risen too fast, it shifts to UVXY, which tends to jump when fear spikes. In the most extreme cases it uses 75% UVXY and 25% BTAL, a defensive fund. If the market is weak, it may buy a sharp rebound, or move to long Treasury bonds or an inverse S&P 500 fund for defense.

Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
