About

A disciplined, rule-based, multi-asset strategy that combines trend checks, momentum screens, and selective hedging to ride top-performing commodities and tech proxies while using gold and Treasuries as risk guards. It picks a small pool of assets, selects the best performers, and adds tactical RSI tilts for tech exposure, with cautious cash management and limited rebalancing.
NutHow it works
- The system starts with cash but can place money into a Bear hedge or into a Battleship asset basket. - Bear hedge: among two traditional hedges (Treasuries via TLT and gold via GLD), it looks at recent performance over a short horizon and checks a basic trend condition. If the rule fires, it allocates to the safer hedges rather than equities. - Battleship universe: a larger pool of assets (commodity funds, gold, oil, agriculture, real estate, leveraged tech ETFs, and select sector/theme ETFs). Each asset is first checked for a trend signal (price relative to moving-average trends). Specifically, it compares short-term vs longer-term moving averages to verify an uptrend. - Momentum screen: from those that pass, it ranks assets by how much they’ve gained recently (cumulative return over about 16 days) and selects the top 4. Those top 4 receive exposure (often with equal cash weighting within that subset). - Tactical RSI tilts on tech: the system uses a separate set of RSI triggers on QQQ (a tech-heavy proxy). If the 10-day RSI on QQQ is very low (oversold), it tilts toward ProShares Ultra QQQ (QLD) to leverage a potential rebound. If the 10-day RSI is very high (overbought), it tilts toward ProShares UltraShort QQQ (QID) to hedge or short-term dampen the tech rally. There is also a longer-horizon comparison (RSI on QQQ vs utilities, XLU) to decide whether to tilt toward QLD based on longer-term momentum. - Rebalancing and risk controls: the framework uses a small rebalancing corridor (0.1) and an explicit cash-equal handling rule to avoid excessive turnover. The overall approach emphasizes capturing uptrends in a focused basket while holding hedges or cash when conditions deteriorate.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
