About

A monthly 401k strategy that goes growth-heavy (QQQ + SPY) when the S&P 500 is rising and calm, and shifts to a defensive mix (AGG, BIL, SPY) when markets are shaky or weakening.
NutHow it works
Each month: 1) If recent S&P 500 volatility is high → hold a defensive mix: 50% AGG (broad U.S. bonds), 20% BIL (T‑bills/cash‑like), 30% SPY (S&P 500). 2) Otherwise, if the S&P 500 rose over ~3 months → 70% QQQ (Nasdaq‑100, big‑tech heavy) + 30% SPY. 3) Otherwise → same defensive mix as step 1.
CheckmarkValue prop
Back-tested out-of-sample, this strategy cuts drawdowns in volatile markets and still captures upside in uptrends, delivering smoother, lower-risk returns and competitive risk-adjusted performance versus the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
