About

A mostly defensive portfolio that keeps roughly half in bonds/cash and uses the rest to cautiously trade between defensive stocks and a leveraged Nasdaq fund after dips.

This strategy keeps a big safety cushion and only takes extra stock risk when conditions look favorable. About half the portfolio stays in safer holdings like Treasury bonds and T-bills. The rest shifts between defensive stock funds, more bonds, or a high-risk tech fund (QLD, which aims to move about twice as much as the Nasdaq-100). It buys QLD mainly after sharp recent drops in tech, but moves back to bonds or cash when markets get too jumpy or after a sudden surge.

Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
