About

A daily momentum-based sector-rotation strategy: if SMH shows an uptrend, buy 3 semis/tech stocks with solid but not overbought momentum; otherwise rotate into 2 defensive assets (bond/defensive ETFs) with lower short-term momentum, using BIL as a cash proxy when needed.
NutHow it works
- Every day, check SMH's 20-day vs 50-day moving-average: if the 20-day MA is higher, treat as a growth-uptrend signal; otherwise treat as defensive/cash. - Growth path (if SMH uptrend): examine a preselected list of stocks (INOD, ANET, APLD, MRVL, LITE, COHR, ALAB, GLW, NBIS, STX, CIEN, VRT, PSTG). For each, compute a 14-day RSI. If a stock’s RSI is below 80, keep the stock; if RSI is 80 or above, replace with BIL (cash-like). Then pick the top 3 stocks by RSI (highest momentum among those under 80). - Defensive path (if SMH not in uptrend): form a small defensive basket from BSV, TLT, LQD, VBF, XLP, UGE, XLU, XLV. Compute a 10-day RSI for each and pick the two with the lowest RSI (weakest short-term momentum) to hold, effectively a risk-off tilt. - Weighting is equal within the chosen set; cash is included in the growth path as BIL when needed. - Rebalance frequency is daily. - This approach relies on momentum and trend signals rather than fundamentals.
CheckmarkValue prop
Dynamic momentum regime-rotation between growth (semis/tech) and defensives to diversify and weather choppy markets. Out-of-sample results show higher drawdowns and possible underperformance vs the S&P—best used as a portfolio sleeve, not core.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
