This is a rule-based portfolio that constantly asks: is the market calm, strong, weak, or panicking? When conditions look good, it often buys aggressive funds tied to tech or the broad U.S. stock market. When markets look overheated or dangerous, it can switch into crash hedges, bets against stocks, Treasury bonds, or defensive sectors like healthcare and utilities. It uses simple scorecards based on recent price trend and “too hot/too cold” readings to decide.

Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
