A market-timing strategy that uses trend signals to switch between aggressive 2x stock funds, bonds, defensive stocks, and sometimes a bearish Nasdaq fund.

This strategy reads the market in layers using the S&P 500 as its main “weather gauge.” First it asks: is the long-term trend healthy or weak? Then it checks the medium-term trend. If both look strong, it leans hard into stocks, often using 2x funds like SSO (2x S&P 500). If the market looks stretched after a big run, it mixes in long-term Treasury bonds (TLT). If trends weaken, it shifts toward safer bond funds like BND or BSV. It also watches tech stocks through QQQ. If tech has fallen very sharply in the short term, it buys ROM, a 2x technology fund, betting on a bounce. In the weakest environments, it can move into defensive stocks (XLP), long Treasuries, or even QID, a fund that rises when the Nasdaq falls.

Out-of-sample, this strategy targets higher upside than the S&P 500: about 31.5% annualized return vs 20.3% for SPY, with a solid Calmar of ~1.29. It uses regime-driven leverage and defensive shifts to chase big trend wins while managing risk.
