About

Rules-based “buy cheap volatility” strategy. When many assets look overheated, it buys UVXY/VIXY (volatility). Otherwise it rides tech/oil; if weakness hits, it hides in QQQ, low‑vol stocks, and short‑term bonds. Uses simple heat (RSI) and trend filters.
NutHow it works
Big switch: if the S&P 500 (SPY) is above its 200‑day average, we’re risk‑on; otherwise we go defensive. In risk‑on, if many areas look very “hot” (RSI, a quick 0–100 heat score, is high), we buy volatility via UVXY/VIXY (a bet vol rises from low). If not, we ride TECL (leveraged tech) and UCO (leveraged oil). If trends break or losses mount, we switch to QQQ, SPLV (low‑vol stocks) and BSV (short‑term bonds).
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample Sharpe 2.62 vs SPY 2.05; annualized return ~47% vs ~24%; beta ~0.34; Calmar ~6.85. A volatility-tilt, momentum strategy that diversifies and delivers higher risk-adjusted returns than the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesn’t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
