About

A tactical โ€œbuy cheap volatilityโ€ plan: in hot, calm markets it accumulates VIXโ€‘linked ETFs before turbulence; if vol already spiked, it uses leveraged tech/oil. In weak markets, it shifts to QQQ/momentum or lowโ€‘vol stocks and shortโ€‘term bonds with strict risk switches.
NutHow it works
Goal: buy โ€œfearโ€ cheaply. When the S&P 500 is in an uptrend and many areas look overheated (a 0โ€“100 heat gauge called RSI is >80), it buys VIXโ€‘linked ETFs (UVXY/VIXY) only if they havenโ€™t just spiked (their RSI <85); otherwise it holds leveraged tech (TECL) or oil (UCO). If the market isnโ€™t in an uptrend or shows stress (fast drops/drawdowns), it rotates to Nasdaq (QQQ) or to safer funds (SPLV/BSV).
CheckmarkValue prop
Out-of-sample Sharpe 2.25 vs SPY 2.10; annualized return 38.8% vs 23.8%; Calmar 5.65. Slightly larger drawdown, but materially stronger risk-adjusted growth and volatility hedging, delivering more upside in turbulent markets than the S&P 500.

FAQ

A Composer symphony is an automated trading strategy that executes trades based on parameters of your choice. Some symphonies are similar to holding one ETF in normal conditions and rotating to a different ETF when market conditions shift, for example a 5% drop in the S&P 500, while others use complex rules with dozens of triggers. However, complex doesnโ€™t always mean better. A simple, well-structured symphony can be just as effective as an intricate one. Learn more about how symphonies work here.
