What is MARW?

AllianzIM U.S. Large Cap Buffer20 Mar ETF intends to invest substantially all of its assets in FLexible EXchange Options ("FLEX Options") that reference the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust ("Underlying ETF"). The Fund uses FLEX Options to seek to deliver returns that match, at the end of a specified Outcome Period, the share price returns of the Underlying ETF (i.e., the market price returns of the Underlying ETF) up to the Cap. The Fund seeks to provide shareholders that hold shares for the entire Outcome Period with a downside loss buffer against the first 20% of Underlying ETF losses (the "Buffer"). The Buffer is measured based upon the Underlying ETF's share price at the time the Fund enters into the FLEX Options for the Outcome Period, which occurs on the business day immediately prior to the first day of the Outcome Period.

What is ETF correlation?

Correlation is a measure of the strength of the relationship between two ETFs. It quantifies the degree to which prices of the two ETFs typically move together.

Here, correlation is measured over the past year with the Pearson correlation coefficient (Pearon’s r), which ranges from -1 to 1.

Using ETF correlations in portfolio and strategy construction

ETF correlations can help you create investing strategies and portfolios. Use them to:

  • Build a diversified portfolio from uncorrelated or inversely correlated ETFs with the aim of minimizing portfolio risk.
  • Compare correlated or related ETFs to find one with a lower expense ratio or higher trading volume.
  • Create an investing strategy that hedges an ETF with an uncorrelated or inversely correlated ETF.
